Prescibed Burn

Peaks to People Completes Work at its Demonstration Sites

Work is now complete in each of our two demonstration sites.  Our Cache la Poudre site is part of the Elkhorn Creek Forest Health Initiative led by the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed.  This fall, thanks to the leadership of The Nature Conservancy and the assistance of many partners, we completed a prescribed burn on our site.  Prescribed burns reduce fuels, encourage regrowth of native vegetation and improve habitat.

Our Big Thompson demonstration site is at the Ramsay Shockey Open Space and an adjacent State Land Board parcel.  Thanks to a recent snow, the Colorado State Forest Service was able to burn the remaining piles on the state parcel.  Burning the piles complements the thinning work that was done last year, by further reducing fuels on the site.

Peaks to People is in the process of identifying our next projects to fund.  If you have a forest management/fuels reduction project in the Big Thompson or Cache la Poudre watersheds for us to consider funding, please contact us at info@peakstopeople.org
